Angelo Bellobono is a visual artist and ski coach.

"I paint to back home. Painting is my map made by sweat, wind, cold, sun, climbs and descents, it is the construction of the path.”

Through his work Bellobono paints atmospheres and suspended stories that investigate the relationship between anthropology, geology, identity, border and territory and how all of it affects and redraws the natural and social landscape. He constantly experiences a sense of "corporeal" belonging to places traveled to, an experience necessary to read the sedimentations and memories of the landscape.
Having spent over two decades as a professional skier and sport coach, and then explorer, Bellobono has lived in various mountain ranges around the world. The elements of ice and mountains, especially the Mediterranean mountain ranges, are frequent elements in his work: ice representing the planet’s archival memory, and mountains depicted as hinges and not barriers, connecting different cultures rather than dividing them. He considers the Mediterranean sea as a “Mountain Lake”.
In addition to his pictorial research Bellobono has made several interdisciplinary projects in which art, sport and biosustainability become instruments of social connectivity and microeconomic development, as in the case of Atla(s)now project with the Amazigh communities of the Moroccan High Atlas, or Before me and after my time involving the Ramapough Lenape, the Native American natives of New York and Io sono Futuro in the Appennine areas affected by the earthquake. In the summer of 2018, as part of the project Linea Appennino 1201, he crossed all the Italian Apennine peaks from the south in Calabria, to the north in Liguria, to collect the soil of each peak then used for his paintings.
He participated in the XV Quadriennale of Rome and in the IV and V Biennial of Marrakech and at the museum exhibition De Prospectiva Pingendi in Todi and Selvatico in Cotignola. He has exhibited in public and private spaces such as the Maxxi Museum L'Aquila, American University's Katzen Art Center in Washington, Multicultural Art Space in Melbourne, the Mars Space in Milan, the Volume Foundation in Rome, the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo and New Delhi, the Macro Museum in Rome, the Museum Ciac di Genazzano, Palazzo Re Enzo in Bologna, AlbumArte in Rome, the Othersize Gallery in Milan, the Wunderkammern Gallery in Rome, the Changing Role Gallery in Naples and Envoy Gallery in New York, Frank Pages in Geneva, Biasa ArtSpace in Bali.
He won awards from Cultura and Arte by the Fondazione Roma in 2019, the Celeste Prize for Painting in 2005 and the Artslant Drawing award in 2009. He was a finalist in the Lissone Prize, the Combat Prize, and the Portali dello Scompiglio Prize. In 2010 he was invited to the Martedì critici and in 2015 to Tedx-Rome. Over the years he has been invited to various residences such as Bocs Cosenza, Landina Cars Omegna, Lac or Le Mon San Cesario Foundation of Lecce.
His work is found in numerous public and private collections.

Angelo Bellobono è un artista e un allenatore di sci.

“Dipingo per tornare a casa. La pittura è la mia mappa fatta di sudore, vento, freddo, sole, salite e discese, è la costruzione del sentiero.”

Attraverso il suo lavoro Bellobono dipinge atmosfere e storie sospese, che indagano il rapporto tra antropologia, geologia, identità, confine e territorio ridisegnando costantemente il paesaggio naturale e sociale. Sperimenta costantemente un senso di appartenenza "corporale" ai luoghi, esperienza necessaria a leggere le sedimentazioni e le memorie del paesaggio. Negli anni le sue professioni di artista, maestro di sci e guida escursionistica, si sono fuse insieme. Il ghiaccio e le montagne, in particolare le catene montuose del Mediterraneo, sono elementi frequenti nel suo lavoro; ghiaccio che rappresenta l’archivio di memoria del pianeta e le montagne immaginate come cerniere e non barriere, ponti tra culture e paesi. Considera il Mar Mediterraneo un "Lago di montagna".
Insieme alla sua ricerca pittorica Bellobono ha realizzato diversi progetti interdisciplinari in cui arte, sport e biosostenibilità diventano strumenti di connettività sociale e sviluppo microeconomico, come nel caso di Atla(s)now con le comunità Amazigh dell'Alto Atlante marocchino, o Before me and after my time con i Ramapough Lenape i nativi americani di New York e Io sono Futuro nelle aree appenniniche colpite dal sisma. Nell'estate del 2018, per il progetto Linea Appennino 1201, ha attraversato tutto l'Appennino dalla Calabria alla Liguria per raccogliere la terra di ogni vetta poi utilizzata nei suoi dipinti. Negli anni 2020-2022 ha invece realizzato Mappa Appennino, attraverso quattro residenze appenniniche al sud, al centro, e al nord di questa catena montuosa.
Ha partecipato alla XV Quadriennale di Roma, alla IV e V Biennale di Marrakech, alla mostra museale De Prospectiva Pingendi a Todi. Ha esposto in spazi pubblici e privati come il Museo Maxxi L'Aquila, l’American University’s Katzen Art Center di Washington, AlbumArte, Spazio Mars di Milano, Fondazione Volume di Roma, Museo di arte moderna del Cairo e quello di Nuova Delhi, Museo Macro di Roma, Multicultural art center Melbourne, Museo Ciac di Genazzano, Palazzo Re Enzo di Bologna, The Othersize Gallery di Milano, Galleria Wunderkammern di Roma, Galleria Changing Role di Napoli, Envoy Gallery di New York, Frank Pages di Ginevra, Biasa ArtSpace di Bali.
Ha vinto il bando Cultura e Arte dalla Fondazione Roma nel 2019, il Premio Celeste per la pittura nel 2005 e quello Artslant per il disegno nel 2009. È stato finalista del Premio Lissone, del Premio Combat e del Premio Portali dello Scompiglio. Nel 2010 è stato invitato ai Martedì critici e nel 2015 al Tedx-Roma. Nel corso degli anni è stato invitato in varie residenze come Bocs Cosenza, Landina Cars Omegna, Fondazione Lac O Le Mon San Cesario di Lecce.
Il suo lavoro è presente in numerose collezioni pubbliche e private.
