Attraverso il suo lavoro Bellobono dipinge atmosfere e storie sospese, che indagano il rapporto tra antropologia, geologia, identità, confine e territorio e ridisegnano costantemente il paesaggio naturale e sociale. L’artista, attraverso il corpo, abita la pittura diventando paesaggio, sperimentando costantemente un commosso incontro con i luoghi, un senso di appartenenza, esperienza necessaria a leggere sedimentazioni e memorie. Negli anni, le sue identità di artista, maestro di sci, guida escursionistica e allenatore si sono fuse insieme in modo totalizzante. Le montagne e il ghiaccio, in particolare le catene montuose del Mediterraneo, immaginato come un grande lago di montagna, sono elementi frequenti nel suo lavoro; ghiaccio che rappresenta l’archivio di memoria del pianeta e montagne cerniere e non barriere, ponti tra culture e paesi. Parallelamete alla sua personale ricerca pittorica, Bellobono ha realizzato molti progetti interdisciplinari in cui arte, sport, escursionismo e biosostenibilità sono stati usati come strumenti di connettività sociale e sviluppo di competenze, come nel caso di Atla(s)now con le comunità Amazigh dell’Alto Atlante marocchino (2011-2018), Before me and after my time con nativi americani Ramapough Lenape di New York (2012/2015) e Io sono Futuro nelle aree appenniniche del centro Italia colpite dal sisma (2016/2018). Nell’estate del 2018, per il progetto Linea Appennino 1201, ha attraversato l’Appennino dalla Calabria alla Liguria raccogliendo la terra di ogni vetta, luogo di sosta temporanea, utilizzata come materia nei suoi dipinti, raccolti poi in un libro prodotto dalla Collezione Maramotti ed esposti in una grande mostra presso lo spazio Albumarte di Roma. Negli anni 2020-2022 ha invece realizzato Mappa Appennino, quattro spedizioni pittoriche, residenze e laboratori appenninici al sud, al centro, e al nord di questa catena montuosa, progetto poi esposto in una personale al Museo Maxxi L’Aquila. Dal 2023, con sua moglie Carla Ciatto, insegnante di yoga e guida ambientale, ha creato Casa Appennino, un ecosistema interdisciplinare nelle colline della Sabina.
Ha partecipato alla XV Quadriennale di Roma, alla IV e V Biennale di Marrakech, alla mostra Pittura Italiana Oggi alla Triennale di Milano, alla mostra De Prospectiva Pingendi a Todi e Impresa Pittura al Ciac di Genazzano. Ha esposto in spazi pubblici e privati come il Museo Maxxi L’Aquila, Museo della triennale di Milano, AlbumArte, Spazio Mars di Milano, Fondazione Volume di Roma, Museo di arte moderna del Cairo e di Nuova Delhi, Museo Macro di Roma, Multicultural art center Melbourne, Museo Ciac di Genazzano, Palazzo Re Enzo di Bologna, The Othersize Gallery di Milano, Galleria Wunderkammern di Roma, Galleria Changing Role di Napoli, Envoy Gallery di New York, Frank Pages di Ginevra, Biasa ArtSpace di Bali.
Nel 2020 la rivista Artribune lo ha scelto come miglior artista dell’anno. Ha ottenuto sostegno per Mappa Appennino dalla Fondazione Cultura e Arte dalla Fondazione Roma nel 2019, ha vinto il Premio Celeste per la pittura nel 2005 e quello Artslant per il disegno nel 2009. È stato finalista del Premio Lissone, del Premio Combat e del Premio Portali dello Scompiglio. Nel 2010 è stato invitato ai Martedì critici e nel 2015 al Tedx-Roma. Nel corso degli anni è stato invitato in varie residenze come Bocs Cosenza, Landina Cars Omegna, Fondazione Lac O Le Mon San Cesario di Lecce.
Il suo lavoro è presente in numerose collezioni pubbliche e private.
Through his work, Bellobono paints suspended atmospheres and stories that explore the relationship between anthropology, geology, identity, borders, and territory, constantly redrawing the natural and social landscape. Through his body, the artist inhabits painting, becoming landscape, constantly experiencing a moving encounter with places, a sense of belonging, an experience necessary to read sedimentations and memories. Over the years, his identities as an artist, ski instructor, hiking guide, and coach have merged together in an all-encompassing way. Mountains and ice, particularly the mountain ranges of the Mediterranean, imagined as a large mountain lake, are frequent elements in his work; ice representing the planet’s memory archive and mountains as hinges rather than barriers, bridges between cultures and countries. Parallel to his personal pictorial research, Bellobono has carried out many interdisciplinary projects in which art, sport, hiking, and bio-sustainability have been used as tools for social connectivity and skills development, as in the case of Atla(s)now with the Amazigh communities of the Moroccan High Atlas (2011-2018), Before me and after my time with Ramapough Lenape Native Americans in New York (2012/2015) and Io sono Futuro (I am Future) in the Apennine areas of central Italy affected by the earthquake (2016/2018). In the summer of 2018, for the Linea Appennino 1201 project, he crossed the Apennines from Calabria to Liguria, collecting soil from each peak, a temporary resting place, used as material in his paintings, which were then collected in a book produced by the Maramotti Collection and exhibited in a major exhibition at the Albumarte space in Rome. In the years 2020-2022, he created Mappa Appennino, four painting expeditions, residencies, and workshops in the Apennines in the south, center, and north of this mountain range, a project later exhibited in a solo show at the Maxxi L’Aquila Museum. Since 2023, with his wife Carla Ciatto, a yoga teacher and environmental guide, he has created Casa Appennino, an interdisciplinary ecosystem in the Sabina hills.

In 2020, Artribune magazine named him Artist of the Year. He received support for Mappa Appennino from Fondazione Cultura e Arte and Fondazione Roma in 2019, won the Premio Celeste for painting in 2005 and the Artslant Prize for drawing in 2009. He was a finalist for the Premio Lissone, the Premio Combat, and the Premio Portali dello Scompiglio. In 2010, he was invited to Martedì critici and in 2015 to Tedx-Roma.
